Seeking: Input On A New Version Of The Dojo
Issue #70: Communication Dojo Newsletter
Dear friends of the Communication Dojo,
Closing our meta-Hike: reflection and looking ahead
The Communication Dojo crossed its five year anniversary this September. 15 Hikes, each of them three-month long journeys of practice, learning and connection. The Communication Dojo was a grand experiment: could we bring relational practices online and share them with the world?
In celebration of the five year anniversary of the Dojo’s existence, Justin and Carol chose to turn Hike 16 into a meta-Hike, where we reflect on the past and reimagine the future of the Communication Dojo. It has been five years, and we had met all the original goals of our experiment. It was a time to slow down, tune into ourselves about what we’re seeking, and to tune into the community about our collective experience.
In the eyes of Carol and Justin, this meta-Hike has been a nourishing, heartwarming, and clarifying one. More specifically, the meta-Hike:
helped us and others in the Dojo to see our collective strengths, attractions, as well as highlight our shadows and lingering questions of what could be possible here.
reconnected with old friends and practitioners who we had spent so much time in intentional practice with.
helped Justin and Carol validate a sense of the health of the community and provided assurance that our co-stewardship is in a direction that still serves people (ourselves included).
provided great clarity in new design ideas for T-group practice (see proposal here), which we will start implementing in our next Hike.
created the possibility of, and gave birth to, a new version and vision of the Communication Dojo, by joining forces with a sister Dojo (for details, see the next announcement below)
We are deeply grateful for everyone who has filled out the survey, talked to us individually, contributed to our co-visioning dialogue series, read our previous newsletters, etc. We will conclude the meta-Hike on 12/9 and formally start our annual winter break (with an exception for Bohm Dialogue practices which will continue on 12/5 and 12/19). We plan to start the next Hike in the week of Jan 12, 2026. Stay tuned for a newsletter about the new Hike.
2. Invitation to a peek into a new version of the Dojo on 12/9.
As mentioned in previous newsletters, James, Ola, Justin, and Carol have been meeting regularly in the past three months to design a new platform to support and host more relational practices. We have just finished a broad-stroke “sketch” of what the new platform may look like, how it works, its cultural DNA, who it may serve, and more. Overall, it’s an expansion of the Communication Dojo, with joint effort from Intentional Society’s Practice Dojo. We’ll continue to have T-group and Bohm Dialogue practices in the new Hike. We may add a couple of new practices as well. They may be hosted on the new platform, if things happen according to the plan. We’d love to invite you to a conversation on 12/9 to give feedback (the good, the bad, the ugly, everything is welcome). Here’s a sketch of the new platform for everyone to review and give input. Hope to see you next Tuesday!
